I’d been experiencing some discomfort in the abdominal area and my GP Dr Crombie recommended that I see Mr Tariq Ismail at The Priory Hospital due to his excellent reputation in this type of surgery.  I was seen by Mr Ismail in his outpatient clinic within a week where under his instructions I underwent a CT scan and Colonoscopy, which confirmed a diagnosis of Colon Cancer and I was soon in the operating theatre at The Priory Hospital.

I have nothing but praise for Mr Tariq Ismail. Overall he has been extremely supportive and he explained everything to me about the diagnosis in precise detail, offering me the ideal combination of a positive approach and empathy with my condition.
Mr Ismail proved to be an excellent surgeon, (performing a Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy) with the ideal balance of also offering me as his patient some humour along the way to “oil the wheels” of my cancer journey. The high quality of the surgery is demonstrated by the fact that I was able to attend the Edgbaston Test Match six days after my operation.

I also have nothing but praise for the team at the Birmingham Bowel Clinic and The Priory Hospital that help to support Mr Ismail in his work. My four night stay in hospital was made very comfortable by the excellent nursing care I received- especially from Sarah the Staff Nurse on the Colmore Ward who also offered me positive and empathetic support with lots of useful information about diet, my anaesthetists Dr Millns and Dr Lilley, the nurses on the Intensive Care Ward where I spent my first night following my operation, Mandy Smart the Colorectal nurse who maintained regular contact with me following my discharge from hospital, and subsequently the nurses on the Oncology Unit who are all very friendly professional- especially Sam and Mo.
Lastly I would also like to praise Dr Ian Geh, my Consultant Oncologist who took lots of time in explaining in detail to me about the course of chemotherapy I was to receive and also for his patience and sense of confidence.

As a busy businessman, I appreciated the speed at which my appointments were made and at convenient times.  The treatment I have received by Mr Ismail and his team have enabled me resume normal life as quickly as possible and I feel that I have been treated with the upmost respect and dignity throughout.
