Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to see my GP first?

Ideally yes, you will need a letter of referral from your GP or referring physician. This can be faxed, posted or emailed by your GP prior to your appointment, or you can bring it with you to your appointment.

How long will I have to wait for my first appointment?

Patients can usually be seen within 3-4 days of contacting the clinic. Where an urgent appointment is required, every effort will be made for you to see the consultant as soon as possible.

How do I make an appointment or make an enquiry about treatment?

To make an appointment or should you have any queries please contact the Birmingham Bowel Clinic secretary on 0845 241 7762 or email enquiries@birminghambowelclinic.co.uk. Alternatively click here

What will happen at my consultation?

You meet with the consultant who will take a detailed clinical history of your problem. A physical examination may then be carried out. The consultant will then explain what may be causing your symptoms and offer you treatments or arrange any further investigations that may be necessary. The whole consultation and examination will normally last for 30 minutes.

How quickly can investigations be carried out?

A full range of investigations is available at the BMI The Priory Hospital, which can usually be arranged for you within a week of the consultation.

What happens next?

After your investigations or any treatments you will normally be seen back in the clinic. Follow up consultations may involve a further examination and normally last about 15 minutes.

What our patients think...
Piles: Never did the wind and rain sound sweeter as I lie in my hospital bed, Piles of peace and happiness building in my heart, While deeper down piles of other piles begin their journey into what will be an ever shrinking bleeding memory. With many thanks to Mr Ismail. ”
