Rigid Sigmoidoscopy

What is a rigid sigmoidoscopy?

This is an examination using a short illuminating telescope.

What do the tests involve?

You will be asked to lie on an examination couch on your left side with your knees bent.
The doctor introduces some air into the bowel at the same time, so that that the scope can be moved forwards. This procedure is frequently performed in the out patient clinic. It gives good views of the rectum and if necessary biopsies can be taken (painless removal of a small piece of tissue).

Do I need any preparation before-hand?

You will not need any preparation before-hand.

What our patients think...
I had a rapid recovery and am now haemorrhoid free. Overall I am very satisfied with Mr Radley and his team at the Birmingham Bowel Clinic and would highly recommend the clinic to anyone suffering with haemorrhoids or bowel problems. ”
