Mrs Elisabeth Stroud

I had been suffering from Diverticular disease for over 27 years, which had become more severe and painful over time increasingly restricting my diet.
Whilst on holiday overseas in 2010, I was admitted to hospital as I had a severe abdominal infection caused by the acute Diverticulitis. This delayed my return home and I was advised, that on my return to the UK, I would need to have a portion of my bowel removed. When I was back home, I made enquiries in Birmingham medical circles to find a specialist with good experience and a good reputation.

Mr Simon Radley from the Birmingham bowel clinic was recommended to me. Following further research, I decided to consult with him.
When I first met Mr Radley in his outpatient clinic he quickly put me at ease and explained to me in great detail about Diverticular disease and, why for most sufferers, he would try to avoid having to operate on patients with the condition.

As I had a severe form of Diverticular disease, Mr Radley explained why I would need surgery – a Laparoscopic Anterior Resection. He talked me through the operation and the dangers of undergoing the procedure. Mr Radley was very informative and thorough –I took a list of questions with me to my appointment, and at the end of my consultation I double-checked and realised that he had already answered them.

I was unable to undergo surgery straightaway due to the infection, so underwent my operation in March 2011.
I found Mr Radley to be very kind and caring through all of the consultations and procedures. Following my surgery at the Priory hospital, he visited me every morning and every evening to check on my progress and re-assure me until my discharge.
I could not be happier with the outcome, the quality of care and the treatment I have received from Mr Radley, and all the staff involved at the Priory hospital.

Six months after my procedure I am a “new woman”, it has changed my life completely and at times I actually forget that I have undergone a major operation.
